The Virtue Doctor

Today, almost 90 percent of the total population has access to mobile devices or laptops with internet connectivity. Technology has a huge impact on our lives and using it to our benefit by reaching the healthcare is a boon. Unlike a few years ago, patients need not have to wait long hours for their doctors and they could easily interact with a healthcare professional at any hour. They can keep track of their health conditions themselves through healthcare applications. It also helps doctors to check on their patients’ health records now and then. Our website, ‘The Virtue Doctor’ has been developed to make healthcare services faster, cheaper and more efficient. The potential users are the common public who needs medical attention.

‘The Virtue Doctor’ is a web – based application that is accessible across the globe, where users can test themselves medically and get their accurate diagnostics from the comfort of their home. We have observed that in underdeveloped countries and far-flung areas, people do not have enough amenities to visit the hospital as they are distant. The people living in such areas panic even for a common cold and paying the doctor a visit every time costs high expenses. Our website, ‘The Virtue Doctor’ resolves this issue by enabling the people in remote areas to test themselves anytime and ensures that no person would be neglected from medical attention one stands in need of. The main intention of creating this healthcare application is that it is feasible and responsive as well as useful to society, especially at times like the pandemic this year.

There are numerous features, including a tutorial on how to make the best use of ‘The Virtue Doctor’ and a form to contact the authorities for giving out the user’s feedback. Our user interface is user – friendly with minimal design and the color scheme is soothing to the user’s vision. Overall, the visual outlook has an elegant feel. Most of the animations have been implemented using Javascript. We have implemented jinja template to ease our server – side implementation. We made a SQL server to maintain the database of our users and keep it dynamic. We have adapted the dataset from reputable sources such as WHO, CDC, Apollo Hospitals, Medline and Harvard Medical Education. If the health condition is critical and needs immediate attention, links to helplines are mentioned.

A remarkable part of our website is a medical static kiosk, which will help in performing self – assessment tests and providing health tips. We have designed the kiosk in a way that it can recognize the user via speech, which will prevent germs from spreading since there is no need to use our fingers and thus, helps maintain hygiene. The other notable feature is the use of high powered tools such as Machine Learning. We have used ML to build the back end of our web application as it is known to improve the algorithms that help in making quick, accurate predictions and detect threats or spam. Also, we can widen our reach to the target audience and offer them a better experience with the help of Machine Learning. After the integration of the back end to the front end, we performed alpha testing and debugged any or all the errors.

In the subsequent years, we intend to capture a highly potential medical domain. ‘The Virtue Doctor’ can be used as a common self – diagnostic platform or can be monetized by selling to various hospital chains. Also, some of the startups would likely be interested in our project due to the heavy potential of automated medical testing and diagnostics in the future.
